Facing the Future: Insights from the UNESCO Climate Justice & Mental Resilience Workshop

2024/25

On February 17, 2025, students from SZU’s class 2AHITN, along with their form teacher SCPA, participated in the Climate Anxiety & Climate Justice Workshop, hosted by the Austrian UNESCO Commission. The event explored the connections between the climate crisis, mental health and global justice, and encouraged young people to become active participants in tackling the climate crisis.

The workshop was split into two parts. The first session, titled Climate Crisis & Colonialism: Building a Just Future and led by the D!SRUPT Verein, highlighted how historical exploitation has shaped today’s environmental injustices. Through interactive discussions, students examined the unequal effects of climate change and the responsibility that wealthy nations bear. The second session, titled Climate Psychology: Protecting Ourselves & Our Planet and facilitated by Psychologists for Future, focused on coping with climate anxiety. Participants learned about strategies for remaining resilient, hopeful and proactive in the face of environmental challenges.
The event provided valuable insights and practical tools for addressing social and personal climate-related issues. We were grateful for this opportunity and appreciated the chance to find out how we can contribute to a more sustainable and just world with a positive mindset.
