From Ideas to Action: The Power of Young People in the EU

2024/25

On January 24, 2025, we went to an event at the Haus der Europäischen Union (House of the European Union), representing our classes 3AHITN and 4AHITN. The event explored how young people can actively engage in shaping Europe’s future. It introduced us to various organizations dedicated to youth participation, education, and European values.

In attendance were representatives of youth initiatives such as One World Filmclubs, which provides educational documentaries on pressing global issues, and Understanding Europe, which offers interactive workshops on European affairs. The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) presented its exciting opportunities for volunteering abroad, while the European Youth Delegate initiative encouraged discussions on key societal issues like education and mental health. Other organisations at the event included Youth Empowerment Participation (YEP) – advocates for student involvement in shaping school curricula – and the together.eu community for fostering democracy and youth engagement.
The hands-on workshops in the afternoon included a session on using social media effectively, led by the TikToker Wienstabil and a reporter from Hashtag Media. Participants learned about social media algorithms, content creation strategies and the video-editing app CapCut. We collaborated in small groups to create our own videos, making the session both educational and enjoyable.
This event showcased the numerous ways in which young people can get involved and make a real impact. It was an inspiring experience, highlighting the power that young people have to shape the future of Europe.
